How do I know for sure which mill would work best for me?
Wood-Mizer's sawmill consultants have years of experience and are trained to help you decide the best mill for your needs.
Walk, Ride or Sit?
Wood-Mizer is the only sawmill manufacturer to offer you a choice of
operating positions. If you're a grade sawyer and want to stay close to the blade, walking with the cutting head is probably your best approach. If you don't want to walk, but still want to be near the action, there's an optional Operator Seat available. And for anyone who wants to sit or stand in one place while they're cutting, we have the Remote Operator Station . The choice is yours.
How much HP do I really need?
That depends on your production needs and the type of wood species you'll be cutting. We have mills available from 13hp to 42hp, and we can help you make the right choice.
I'd like to have a Wood-Mizer, but I wonder if I'm too old!
We have owners in their 80's still operating their Wood-Mizer. When you think about how easy it is to operate the mill, with the seat or remote options, you don't have to be in top physical condition to saw. Besides, most custom sawyers require their customer to provide an off-bearer for the lumber. That way, someone else does the heavy physical labor!
How do you keep the logs' sap from building-up on the blades?
All Wood-Mizers are equipped with a water lube system to help prevent sap build-up on the blade. However, there's also an optional system called the LubeMizer that works on all the Wood-Mizers with power feed. This system applies a special lubricant to both sides of the blade, and it's recommended for really sappy woods.
Do I just throw the blades away when they're dull, or is there a way to re-sharpen them?
You have two options when dealing with dull blades. You can purchase the Wood-Mizer blade maintenance equipment and do your own, or you can leave the sharpening to us by sending them back to Wood-Mizer for remanufacturing for a per blade fee plus shipping. We recommend remanufacturing them in our ReSharp program.
How durable is a Wood-Mizer sawmill?
All Wood-Mizers are built to last. Wood-Mizer mills have cut over one billion board feet of lumber. We've had customers contact us with over 9,000 hours on their mill. In many locations around the world, Wood-Mizers' are operated three shifts a day, seven days a week. Now that's reliability!
Who's the leader in the portable sawmill industry?
Wood-Mizer is truly the World Leader in the portable bandsaw industry. Wood-Mizer has manufacturing facilities located in the United States and Europe. There are now Wood-Mizer mills located in over 100 countries around the world. With over 25,000 in the field, Wood-Mizer is the world's choice for portable sawmills.
Why is there water trickling on the blade while cutting?
In some woods such as many softwoods, pitch in the wood can build up on the blade during cutting. The water trickling onto the blades does not allow the pitch to stick to the blade.
How good is the resale value of Wood-Mizer mills?
Excellent. They retain the highest resale value of any portable sawmill.
Do you offer financing and/or leasing?
Yes, Wood-Mizer has their own financing program. If leasing is your way to go we can also put you in touch with a leasing company that knows our products.
How long does it take to set up a Wood-Mizer mill once you have arrived at the location you want to saw at?
Depending on terrain, usually only a few minutes...it's already been done in as little as 43 seconds.
Do you take trade-ins?
Yes.
Do you deliver?
Yes, for a fee, but the fee can be reduced by agreeing to host a demonstration when your mill is delivered.
What if I find sawmilling is just not for me?
If you find that out in the first 30 days, just bring the mill back. We have a 30-day money back guarantee.
When I order my mill, how long will I have to wait?
Usually we have most common mills in stock and availability would be immediate. If we have to order it, you may have to wait up to 6 weeks but usually less than 2 weeks depending on the time of year you order.
