Gazebo Adds Grace Architecture to Canadian Property
Steve Godley's project began with a photograph in a magazine and a question from his landscaper, "Do you think you could make one of these?" It was a gazebo.
Not long after that, a friend told Steve his church had some cleared trees to haul away, and would Steve be interested?
"The load was 75 percent Western hemlock and 25 percent Western red cedar," says Steve. "I don't usually mill a lot of hemlock, but these logs yielded some nice clear pieces."
Steve used his Wood-Mizer to cut octagonal posts out of the hemlock, along with all the pieces for the floor frame, rafters, wall panels, railings and decking. The cedar provided the roof sheeting and shingles and interior roof struts.
The octagonal posts were important because they allow flush fit joints in a project that included more curves and angled joints than right angles.
By the way, Steve's answer to his landscaper's question was, "yes." |
