Summer Project - Cedar Privacy Fence
Jeff and Tammy Brokaw live in a lovely log home in Harrison, Michigan. With towering hardwood trees surrounding their property, it is a perfect setting for their swimming pool. But they needed a fence around the pool - for their own privacy and security.
It was a family project: daughter Stacy helped Tammy and Jeff locate, cut, and tail Northern white cedar logs and build the fence.
Jeff dug holes for the posts, anchoring them with cement, and attached 2x4s between the posts with screws. The stain matches their house and, in keeping with the rustic setting, Jeff cut a tree design into the boards.
"This project was our summer thing," Jeff says. "I think it is cool that we could go to the woods, select the trees, cut them down, turn then into lumber, and finally build a fence. It was a sense of great accomplishment."
Jeff is the founder of the Forestry Forum website and serves as the head Administrator for the website which is a gathering place for those interested in forestry.
