Storm-Damaged Trees Make Fine Southern Home
Roger Ramsey and his sons make an excellent team. Roger and his boys cut 30,000 board feet of lumber on his LT40HDD Wood-Mizer sawmill, and his two sons served as carpenters. This taskoriented trio can now enjoy a 2,900-squarefoot home with all the trappings: a living room, kitchen, dining room, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a utility room/pantry, and a spacious garage.
Roger used cedar, red oak, walnut, ash, pine, and sassafras logs damaged in a terrible windstorm-lumber that seemed destined for the trash heap.
Using the LT40HDD sawmill with trailer package, Ramsey's sons drove to the damaged trees, cut the logs into boards, then hauled the lumber back to the chosen location for the house. Then they started building their very own dream design, which would result in Roger Ramsey's very first new home!
The inside walls are exclusively 1" lumber. The sub-floor is 1" pine. The siding is cedar lapsiding.
Roger says since he and his sons did all the labor, it only cost $20,000 to build the house, which is now worth at least $100,000! Not a bad return on investment! Working together with his sons, Roger says the end result is something that makes the whole family proud.
As Roger said, "We are very thankful and pleased, and having the Wood-Mizer sawmill
made it possible for us to do all the work ourselves. It's the first new home we've ever had, and will hopefully be our home for the rest of our days."
